A date to remember! 21st July 2024 , venue institut français de Maurice, from 15h00 – 19h00 Wake Up Session held its 1vs1 indian ocean championship reuniting 9 countries, namely South Africa, Djibouti, Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, Mayotte, Rodrigues island, Reunion and of course Mauritius island. A yet another historical event as the first event of this kind to gather all these participants for such a competition.
This championship was held during Festival Bouzé Océan indien , an urban dance festival produced by Wake Up entertainment who has been promoting street dance battles in Mauritius since 2010 and has been possible through the support of ambassade de france, institut francais de Maurice, National Arts Fund and Mauritius Recreation council.
Three categories were proposed during the Wake Up Session – Indian Ocean Championship
- Afro Styles (in 2024 the category was open to girls only)
- Hip-Hop (open to both boys & girls)
- Breaking (in 2024 the category was open to boys only)

- Bboy Loup-Kass from Madagascar
- Bboy Patock from Rodrigues island
- Steel Tom from Reunion Island
- Bboy David from Mauritius island
- Billy Ben from Mayotte
- Bboy Ryu from Seychelles
Winner of the Breaking category was Steel Tom from Reunion Island, 2nd Madagascar and 3rd Mayotte
Names of the dancers who represented for Hip-Hop category:
- Jo Wayne from Mauritius
- Lilipop from Reunion Island
- Darino from Rodrigues island
- Fabyo Kydo from Madagascar
- Tay Melanin from South Africa
- Din Onezime from Seychelles
- Bibo Boy from Djibouti
Winner of the Hip-Hop category was : Fabyo Kydo from Madagascar, 2nd place Reunion island and 3rd place Mauritius.

- Wolf Dem from Djibouti
- Tay Melanin from South Africa
- Petit coca from Madagascar
- Vanille from Reunion Island
- Melissa from Mauritius
- Sherill Ann from Rodrigues

Winner of the Afro Styles category was : Vanille from Reunion Island. 2nd place when to Madagascar and 3rd place South Africa.
A big thanks to all regional partners whose support was crucial to find the top talents to represent their countries, Seychelles National Youth Council, Rodrigues Regional assembly, Demolition Squad, Federation HipHop Madagascar, Federation Hip-Hop Reunion, Maydynamix, Generation 430, Djib Fire Dance, Afrocomoco.
