Réunion Island has brilliantly showcased its talents during the qualifications for the “Wake Up Indian Ocean” edition, which took place from the 14th to the 27th of November 2023. This period was marked by memorable events organized in partnership with the Hip-Hop and Urban Culture Federation of Réunion, our main collaborator in this exciting venture.
The qualifications were made possible through the invaluable collaboration of the Hip-Hop and Urban Culture Federation of Réunion and the Battle de l’Ouest, both of which played a crucial role in setting up this unique event. The synergy between these partners created an exceptional platform to highlight local talents in the Afro and Hip-Hop domains.
On the 19th of November, Afro qualifications took place during the “Battle de l’Ouest” event at the Théâtre Plein Air in St Gilles. This iconic location served as a spectacular setting for this competition where dancers showcased their skill and creativity. At the end of this fierce competition, Vany emerged as the winner in the Afro category, demonstrating exceptional talent and unmatched mastery.
On the 26th of November, it was time for the Hip-Hop qualification, which took place at Casabona Gym under the auspices of the Hip-Hop and Urban Culture Federation of Réunion. This day witnessed remarkable performances and fierce competition among hip-hop dancers. Imou emerged as the undisputed champion of the Hip-Hop qualification, impressing the audience and judges with his distinctive style and technical prowess.
These qualifications were more than just a competition; they were a celebration of the richness and diversity of artistic talent present in Réunion. The winners, Vany in the Afro category and Imou in the Hip-Hop category, now proudly represent the island of Réunion in the “Wake Up Indian Ocean” edition. Their success reflects the ongoing commitment of the Réunion artistic community to the evolution and promotion of urban cultures. We eagerly anticipate seeing these champions shine in the main competition in July 2024 in Mauritius and proudly fly the flag of Réunion throughout the Indian Ocean region.

À l’issue de cette compétition acharnée, Vany a émergé en tant que lauréat dans la catégorie Afro, démontrant un talent exceptionnel et une maîtrise incomparable.
Le 26 novembre, c’était au tour de la qualification hip-hop, qui s’est déroulée au Casabona Gym sous l’égide de la Fédération Hip-Hop et Culture Urbaines de la Réunion.
