MYESR Street Dance Battle 2020

In December 2020, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports, and Recreation hosted the exhilarating 3rd edition of the Street Dance Battle. This dynamic event, held across five regional selections and road shows, culminated in a spectacular grand final at Résidence la Chaux Mahebourg. Just as in previous editions, the Street Dance Battle continued its tradition of fierce 1 vs. 1 competition across three distinct dance styles. However, this year brought an exciting twist with the introduction of a special 1 vs. 1 Kidz Battle in the Breaking category.

The journey unfolded at various venues across the island:

  • November 28th: Lakepoint Curepipe
  • December 5th: Bambous YC
  • December 6th: Grand Baie Super U
  • December 12th: Rose Belle YC
  • December 13th: Cite St Catherine St Pierre

The grand finale, the pinnacle of months of talent and dedication, took place on Saturday, December 19th, at Résidence la Chaux Mahebourg.

The Street Dance Battle celebrated champions who triumphed in their respective categories:

  • Melissa Marie emerged as the National Champion in Afro Dance.
  • Bernaud Clair dazzled the audience and took the crown for Hip Hop Freestyle.
  • Aldric Boodhoo displayed exceptional skills and was named the Breaking Adult National Champion.
  • Nitisha Buruth, the youngest competitor, stole hearts and earned the title of Breaking Kids National Champion.

The 3rd Annual Street Dance Battle wasn’t just about competition; it was a celebration of artistry, skill, and the vibrant spirit of dance. It showcased the undeniable talent of Mauritius’s dance community and served as a testament to the power of youth empowerment through the universal language of dance. As we look ahead, we can’t wait to witness the continued growth and success of these talented dancers, and we eagerly anticipate what the next edition of the Street Dance Battle will bring
